ACE at the double - promotion and premiers!
THE ACE Under 13 Division 1 squad was set a tough challenge at the start of this season – but they delivered in style! Terry Patterson, who co-coached the team with Dave Hall, said the aim was simple – win promotion back in to the Super Youth League. “It was our main aim, all season we highlighted it,” said Terry, “the boys handled it, they were hell bent on not losing and really wanted it. “We had a strong defence and promotion came early. Then the minor premiers. Now we’ve got the semi-final against The Gap on Saturday (at Capalaba, 2.15pm), which should be a good game.” ACE finished with 43 points, two clear of Olympic, which inflicted their only defeat in the final fixture of the season. Grange was third on 39 and The Gap fourth with 32. Griffin Gouge top scored on nine, Manil Nit had seven and Mahan Morovatian six. “I think the key has been a whole new team,” said Terry, “we did a lot of team bonding to get them to gel. I thought it would be hard to be that good in their first year. “We were also unsure about what to expected in a new league, unsure of the quality of sides like Brisbane City, Olympic, Redlands, The Gap, The Grange. “We came unstuck in a couple of trial games, but the boys put in a lot of hard work and came through really well. “We’re looking to take the bulk of the squad to the SYL. They want to stay together.” Terry paid tribute to the parents “who have been fantastic”, his co-coach Dave Hall and the support from team manager Richard Caitens.
