Dino's debut delight
After a baptism of fire, teenager is hoping for more senior chances
DINO Mujkanovic, who started the season with ACE Under 18s, could hardly have been given a tougher senior debut last weekend.
He was sent on after just 15 minutes, replacing key midfielder Takeru Saito in a vital match at the home of league leaders Easts.
Not only did Dino handle the situation well, he’s hoping for more – starting on Friday night (June 23) when Grange visit Wolter Park, kick-off 8.30pm.
“I definitely thought this is my chance,” said the 18-year-old who helped ACE to a 1-1 draw, “there were some nerves, but I was really excited and keen to get on.
“There is quite a step up from under 18s to the first team so I just tried work as hard as possible and get the ball as much as possible.
“It lifts your confidence, 100 per cent. Getting a chance to play first team, especially to this age, is a good feeling,” said the midfielder who has been with ACE for 10 years.
“The players were so helpful,” he said, “a couple of them had a word to me. It was really good. They gave me a lot of support.
“I hope to be involved (against Grange). If I get on I’ll try to do my best, as always.”
Dino’s involvement tomorrow night rests with ACE coach Pouria Nabi, who was impressed by the debutant.
“He did well,” said Pouria, “as a young player, learning the game, there are always things to work on, but it was a good start.
“It’s been a big step up for Dino, but he showing our other young players, there is a pathway and opportunity here.”
ACE, in seventh place, will be looking for their first win in five games tomorrow against a side down in 11th place.
That run has included draws against leaders Easts and fourth-placed Mitchelton after leading in both games.
ACE Reserves face their Grange counterparts at 6.30pm tomorrow, also at Wolter Park, looking to build on last week’s 2-0 win at Easts.
