Good time to be here
Jake delighted to join strong ACE squad
JAKE Keslake has made a short trip south to sign for Albany Creek Excelsior (ACE).
The central defender was a regular with North Pine in last season’s Flight Centre Premier League. But in 2017 he will wear the red and black of ACE.
“I think the BPL’s a good standard and I want to give it a good shot against the best players in Brisbane and Queensland,” said Keslake.
“It seems like (ACE has) a good, strong squad that’s improving and challenging - and it’s a good time to be here.”
Keslake will bring defensive composure, aerial power and strength to the ACE back line. The 24 year old said he’s also hoping to add a “few clean sheets”.
ACE coach Piuria Nabi was delighted with his signing: “A couple of times we played North Pine last season and Jake was really very good,” said Nabi.
“I heard from several coaches that he’s a really good defender. I also heard from some of my friends, who know my philosophy and they recommended we take him on board.
“He can add a lot of value to our side. He’s the type of defender we need to add to our back line to make sure we don’t conceded easy goals next year.
“His game knowledge is great, he is fast, he’s a really hard working player, he never stops, never gives up, goes right to the last second of the game.
“We need this type of defender with 100 per cent concentration for the whole game.”
Last season was tough for North Pine, who finished bottom of the Premier League with three wins from 22 games.
"It was a hard year, but you always learn from those experiences,” said Keslake, who has also played for Olympic,
“Now I just want to play week in week out for the first team. For us to be winning consistently and for the back line not to be conceding goals.”
