President's praise
Tony Dooley thanks volunteers, committee and gives glimpse of future
ACE President Tony Dooley, pictured, highlighted the club’s successes on and off the field during the 2017 AGM – and revealed exciting developments in the next few years.
The president also paid tribute to the club’s volunteers and particularly to three committee members who stood down after more than 20 years’ service.
“Stephen Bryant (junior vice-president), Kirsty Royley (secretary) and Bev Freake (merchandising officer) have all been wonderful committed volunteers and are standing down for various reasons and will leave a massive void to fill due to the enormous workload they shouldered over this time,” said Mr Dooley.
“My sincere thanks to each of you for your tremendous input to the club and I am glad that we will still see each of you around the club enjoying the game as spectators.
“I would like to thank Carolyn Williams for her tireless work in the administration office in 2017 who has now moved on from that position.
“As of January 2018 Kirsty Royley will be appointed to the administration manager’s position and through her wealth of knowledge of ACE policies and procedures, in addition to the workings of Football Brisbane and Football Queensland, I am sure that she will be a resounding success in that role.”
On the field ACE senior men had the highest finish in the club’s history, just missing the finals on goal difference while ACE’s growing women’s program fielded a senior women’s team in the Capital League and most junior girls teams finals.
Fixtures officer Craig Baldwin was praised by Moreton Bay Regional Council for the excellent working relationship and helping maintain the Brendale fields.
The ACE spring five-a-side competition was another huge success, again thanks to the tireless efforts of club volunteers.
Mr Dooley also revealed major plans for the club’s Brendale complex: “The addition of the amenities block on the lower fields is still on track to be completed in the first half of 2018,” he said.
“I look forward to an additional two playing fields being completed the year after on the lower area with a new clubhouse to be added also.”
ACE has several committee positions vacant and Mr Dooley urged members to consider joining the committee to ensure the huge strides made in recent years are maintained and built upon.
