Momentum key to striking silver again

STRIKER Chom Arop believes ACE need a simple game plan for tonight’s Silver Boot Cup clash against Easts at Richlands, kick-off 8.30pm.

“We just have to keep playing with the same momentum that we had in the last game and hopefully we’ll get a win again,” said Chom.

Seven days ago ACE came from behind to beat last season’s grand final runners-up Mitchelton 3-2 in the opening fixture of Group A. Chom scored a last-minute winner.

Victory tonight over Easts, who beat Grange 2-1 in their Group A match last Tuesday, would put ACE in pole position for a semi-final spot in the pre-season tournament.

“Team performance is always good, but getting the win is better,” said Chom, “we can always work on the team, but we just need to get the win.”

The 2017 season has started well for ACE with three wins in three matches and three goals in each game - 3-1 v The Gap, 3-1 v Western Pride and 3-2 v Mitchelton.

Chom’s partership up front with Royce Brownlie is also providing profitable with Brownlie scoring four times this year and Chom twice.

Against Mitchie, Chom won a penalty and set-up captain Royce for his two goals and scored the last-minute winner himself.

“We’re creating a lot of chances me and Royce,” said Chom, “either we score or set other people up.

“At the moment the pace we’re setting for the team is good, hopefully we can just get better from there.

“I think I can do better. I have to aim to do better. So far this season’s not bad, but I’m pretty sure it’ll get better.

“I think I’ve continued at the same pace as last season, which I thought was quite good. I worked hard in the close season, I always do.

“I’m probably about 75 per cent there at the moment.”

ACE’s final Silver Boot Cup Group A fixture is against Grange on January 31, kick-off 6.30pm.
