Coach Jamie Sanckson has ‘urged’ ACE Women to use their next two games as a platform to reach another landmark this season.
ACE face seventh-placed Mt Gravatt at Wolter Park tomorrow, kick-off 7.10pm and finish their regular season at bottom side North Star next weekend.
Barring an unlikely set of results, ACE seem set to finish third in Capital League 1, which would earn a home semi-final against Pine Hills in the play-offs.
Should ACE win that and a Preliminary Final, against Taringa or Ipswich Knights, the club’s first grand final for many years awaits.
“Obviously, we are all a bit disappointed after the result (2-1 defeat at Ipswich Knights) on Sunday,” said Jamie.
“We had set ourselves the challenge of a top two finish this year and it looks like we will finish third now … unless Ipswich drop some points.
“But I’ve told the girls we have to take the positives from the situation. It gives us a great opportunity to focus on finals and touch up on a few things heading into that.”
ACE responded to last weekend’s defeat with a 6-0 win at Southside Eagles on Wednesday. Thalia Cameron, Carissa Bozinov, Mykaela Rolls, Lexi Ball, Zaliah Jemeljanovs (pictured) and Morgan Schoener were on target.
“I don’t think confidence would ever have been an issue for us after that defeat,” said Jamie, “but it’s nice to get straight back to winning ways – and we played really well too.
“We’ve got two league games remaining and I’ve urged the players to use them as a stepping-stone to set us up for the club’s first finals series for the women in quite some time.
“There’s still a lot to play for in the sense it’d be great to get to a grand final, both for the girls and from a club point of view.
“We will most definitely be turning our attention to that now and we will give it everything we’ve got.”
ACE Women’s Reserve will leap above Mt Gravatt Reserves into fifth spot on the Capital league 1 ladder tomorrow when the sides meet at Wolter Park at 5pm.
