Harry Royley, pictured above, will have more reason than most to dream about lifting the Canale Cup at Perry Park on Saturday night.
The ACE keeper said, from “16s to seniors” he has been involved in four end-of-season finals and three semi-finals.
“I’ve still yet to win one,” he smiled, “not come away with a medal when I’ve been playing.”
Harry will have a chance to end that run tomorrow when Premier League champions ACE face Moggill, who finished sixth in Capital League 1. Kick-off 7.30pm.
It will be the sides’ second meeting in three years. Moggill won 2-1 at Wolter Park in a Canale Cup Round 3 tie against a much-changed ACE side.
However, Harry said: “I think Perry Park will suit us perfectly. Everyone’s comfortable, we finished the season well playing wel against Mt Gravatt ( 4-0).
“On Saturday we just need to relax and play. We know what we have to do.”
Harry rose through the ACE juniors, City League and reserves to the top side and this season has conceded only 16 goals in 22 Premier League games (three at Wolter Park) with 11 clean sheets.
ACE finished the 22-match regular season unbeaten and in the Canale Cup have conceded two goals in four games while scoring 18.
In fact, ACE have not lost a game in normal playing time this year. Their one defeat was on penalties at NPL side Gold Coast United in the FFA Cup after finishing 2-2 in extra time.
“I’m happy with the season so far but playing in goal and keeping clean sheets is not just down to me,” Harry said.
“It’s everyone, from Snaithy to Jarod, Sean, Jay and Yui. There’s six of us for teams to get through and I think as a unit, the defensive line has been good.
“I’ve loved it this season, but it’s a team effort and everyone gets a pat on the back for only conceding three times at home. That’s pretty unreal!
“Next year will be a bigger test, but at the moment we’re just looking forward to trying to add to the trophies we have.”
