Just before pulling on our red and black shirt this week, new signing Rae McGeown admitted he has “been watching ACE for some time”.
The 22-year-old, pictured above, has links to current coaches and players going back years.
As a junior he knew Carter Glockner and his father, ACE coach Steve, when all three were at Eastern Suburbs.
Rae also went to school with midfielder Dylan Moore, who was one of the first to re-sign for ACE ahead of our debut in FQPL 1 next year.
“I’ve always watched this club,” said Rae, “I was at Souths last season and obviously saw ACE get promotion.
“The facilities here (Wolter Park) are great and when Steve contacted me offering the challenge, I was happy to accept it.”
Rae – who was also at Rochedale, Easts and Lions – said his preferred position is left wing, but he has played full back and midfield.
That versatility was an important in coach Steve’ Glockner’s decision to complete the signing.
“Rae will be yet another attacking option in our team,” he said.
“He can play a number of positions with his pace, mobility, strength and ability to finish his key attributes.
“I believe he has so much potential and will become a key part of our team.”
Pre-season began this week with many of ACE’s new signings and returning players starting preparations for a big season.
“I think FQPL 1 is going to be pretty demanding,” Rae said, “making the top four will be tough.
“Look at the clubs which have come down – Logan and Capalaba are good sides, Surfers and Wolves, who have come up are good.
“Then you have the likes of Brisbane Strikers …. it’s going to be an exciting challenge.”
