SARA Neels, the latest signing by ACE senior women, was recommended to our club by a “coffee regular”.
The striker, who had been at Taringa Rovers for five years, said she was “looking for something different” for the 2020 season.
“I was looking for a club on the northside (of Brisbane) and ACE was recommended to me by one of my coffee regulars at work,” Sara said. “He actually put me onto ACE.”
From that recommendation, Sara has put pen to paper with coach Jamie Sanckson’s team ahead of the Women’s Capital League 1 campaign.
“I’ve seen Sara in some Taringa games and like her versatility,” said Jamie, “she can play in the front three, but other positions as well.
“I think that is important as it gives us depth and experience with Sara having played at BPL level.
“We’ve now signed three or four players with BPL experience last season, so we’ll have strength in depth next season.”
Sara started her career in Toowoomba at the age of eight and played locally, including in the NPL Qld before moving to Brisbane and joining Taringa playing City League 1 and 3, Capital League and last season in the WBPL.
Sara says she’s happy playing upfront, but has also played at full-back. Her crosses, corners and through balls could be key weapons for ACE next season.
However, Sara said her target for 2020 was “just to improve overall and be confident”.
Sara joins new signings Brooke Dutton, Kate Sherratt and Victoria Brebner as well as returning players Morgan-Lee Martin, Mikarlah Born, Rebecca Voigt, Rachael Voigt who have been announced for the ACE squad.
